Fine Arts Report – October 2009
Choir – Mrs. Sue Catanese, Director
The “Best Seat in the House” fundraiser is complete and turned out to be fun as well as successful for the choir. They are planning to do it again next year.
The choir has just started a cookie dough and jewelry fundraiser. Contact a choir member or Mrs. Catanese to place an order if interested.
“Suessical” is this year’s school play/musical.
Auditions were held last months and parts have been assigned.
Lead roles are learning their songs.
Trios and acting parts begin rehearsals next week.
The chorus will begin rehearsals in November.
Band auditions for the pit orchestra will be next month.
Rehearsals begin this month in preparation for Chamber Choir Festival at Oakland University, November 16th. (Varsity Choir).

Band – Ms. Risa Hsu, Director
On September 26th, the Dakota Marching Band competed in the “Knight Time Classic” at Kenowa Hills High School in Grand Rapids. Our band took second place in class AA.
The Band/Choir Collage Concert is back again this year and features performances by each of the bands and choirs. This concert is a fundraiser for both programs and has been well attended. Tickets are on sale for $5.00 per person from either the band or choir. Tickets will be available at the door.
On Wednesday, October 14th, the Dakota Marching Band will participate in the MSBOA Marching Band Festival held at Sterling Heights High School.
Tag Day fundraisers have begun. This past weekend, marching band and color guard students were assembled to play for donations at the 23/Hayes Kroger. This coming weekend, groups will be playing at the 21/Card Kroger.
On Tuesday, November 10th, Abuelo’s Mexican Restaurant near Lakeside will be sponsoring a band fundraiser. 20% of the proceeds generated between 4 and 9 o’clock will be donated to the band program
The Dakota Marching Band is proud to represent Dakota High School for the second year in a row in the Detroit Thanksgiving Day Parade.
