GENERAL Membership Meeting
March 8, 2010
Meeting began at 7:08 p.m.
Stephanie Lange:
- Presented “This Place”
a video that explains how coalitions work within the community.
- The Life of an Athlete
presented by John Underwood to Dakota student athletes and parents on
March 25, 2010. Students will attend the presentation during the
school day and the parent presentation will be at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium.
John Underwood will present information on effects of negative behaviors
on athletic performance and the parent’s role in promoting athletic
excellence. This program is sponsored by the Dakota High School
Athletic Department and the Chippewa Valley Coalition for Youth and
Families.
Minutes of Last General Membership
Meeting were approved by Christie Forbes-Green (1) and Donna Kirchhoff
(2).
Treasurer’s Report:

no report was made.
Administration Report:
Mr. Heethuis
- On Thursday, March
3, 2010 parents and current 9th grade and incoming 8th
grade students attended the meeting for the scheduling process.
Other current students will schedule next year’s classes during homeroom
on Wednesday. Current students will be given updates and addendums
to their current scheduling book. These books will be used from
year to year. New books will not be handed out next year.
Schedules are due March 15, 2010. Students should develop a 4-year
plan during their freshman year. With the new high school requirements
students only have 6.5 elective courses to choose over the 4 years.
- Juniors will take
the ACT component test Tuesday, March 9, 2010. No school for 9th,
10th, 12th graders. March 10, 2010 juniors
will take the Work Keys test and late start for 9th, 10th,
and 12th graders begins at 11:05 a.m. March 11, 2010
juniors will take the MME test late start for 9th, 10th and
12th graders. Friday, March 12, 2010 ½-day for all
students with dismissal at 10:33 a.m.
- Parent-Teacher conferences
are scheduled for March 10 and 11, 2010 in the evening. Core class
teachers will be on the main floor and elective class teachers will
be on the upper level.
- April 1, 2010 Chippewa
Valley High School will host a College Fair for juniors. Bus transportation
between Dakota and Chippewa Valley High School will be provided.
- Senior students
placed their handprints on the wall in the hallway leading to the pool/gym
area.

Service Report:
- Science Olympiad:
The Science Olympiad Team competed at the regional competition Saturday,
February 27 at Macomb Community College South Campus. They received
medals for 12 out of 23 events. Overall the team earned 3rd
place which qualifies them to compete in the State competition of May
1.
- Quiz Bowl:
The Quiz Bowl team finished 9th in the county. They
were a semi-final participant in the end of the year tournament narrowly
losing to Stevenson High School.
- Key Club:
The Key Club will be collecting gently worn shoes which will be sent
to Africa or other third world countries. Please send the shoes
to room 250 through the end of March.
Sports Report:
- Life of an Athlete
presentation to student athletes, coaches and parents on March 25, 2010.
- Upcoming events:
- Mattress
fundraiser on May 1, 2010. Public will buy mattresses directly
from company and portion of sales will help offset the cost of the football
game in Muskegon in 2011. A second sale will be November 13,
2010 during the fall craft show.
- Wrestling
program: Greg Day is 2nd athlete in Dakota history to place
in district competition. He took 8th place.
- Bowling team
qualified to enter State championship. This team reached this pinnacle
in four years.
- Sport physical
night May 13, 2010. $20 fee. Student athletes need a physical
dated 4-15-10 or after to participate in fall/winter sports.
Craft Show Report
- Applications for
the 2010 craft show were mailed and the booster organization is receiving
applications and fees.

Donation Requests:
- $430 for water and
granola for MME testing.
- March Booster Donation
request outstanding: Boys Varsity Basketball $790.00, Quiz Bowl

Old Business:
New Business:
- Doug Sayles presented
the proposed by-law change for requesting donations. A decline
in receipts has made it impossible for the booster board to honor donation
requests. The proposed donation request amendment was explained
to the general membership. Questions and answers about the process
and how it will work were fielded from the general membership and coaches
in attendance. The proposal is attached and will be posted on
the Dakota Booster web site.
