The meeting was called to order at 7:02 p.m. by Christie Forbes-Green, President.
Minutes of last General Membership Meeting were read by the general membership and approved by Lori Labudde (1) and Mary Ann Forster (2).

Administration Report:
John Briningstool addressed the general membership:
Curriculum Night on March 15, 2011 for current 8th through 11th graders. A sort presentation for current students to review their schedules. A presentation for current 9th graders transitioning to the main building. The presentation will also include information on credit recovery. Current 8th grade students will meet with Mrs. Voss and Mr. Sibley to hear about the current graduation requirements for the class of 2015. Parents are encouraged to attend. Students can pick up scheduling information on the following dates: March 17-current 8th grade Iroquois students, March 18-current 8th grade Seneca students, March 21-current 9th grade students and March 22 through March 24 current 10th and 11th grade students will use the Power School Student Portal in the media center during their English class.
The Clinton Valley Education Foundation raises funds for student scholarships and mini grants to teachers. On March 24, 2011 “Taste for Education” fundraiser at Zuccaro Banquet Center at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $40 in advance and $50 at the door. You can purchase tickets from the school office.

Students will be scheduling classes electronically. Students will schedule 12 classes for the 1st and 2nd semester. Students have 48 choices of classes over their high school career. Classes should be chosen carefully and students should make a four-year plan. The graduating class of 2011 is the first class graduating under the Michigan Merit curriculum. Students can monitor their classes on the student portal.
All four sections of the Michigan Merit Exam have been completed by 97% of the 11th graders. Make-up exams will be administered March 15-17, 2011.
Wall of Pride will be completed by the spring break. The Wall of Pride will publically recognize and share the accomplishments of students, staff members, and activity groups at Dakota. The Wall of Pride is being created at the south end of the atrium. Recommendations for bricks should include a photo and short description of the accomplishment. They can be sent in electronic or hard copy. Drop off the hard copy to Mrs. Gunning in the main office and send electronic formats to theethuis@cvs.k12.mi.us.
We are in the process of finalizing a display to recognize Dakota alumni and staff members who are currently serving or have served in the armed forces. The display is located on the wall just south of the auditorium entrance. Information and photos of the active duty or veteran alumni may be sent either in hard copy or electronic formats. Hard copy can be dropped off in the main office to Mrs. Gunning or sent to DHS Defenders project, 21051 21 Mile Road, Macomb, MI 48044. Electronic copy with a photo can be sent to theethuis@cvs.k12.mi.us.
Staff members and seniors have been asked during the last few weeks to share their perceptions and feedback on their experiences and comments they have heard from others regarding Dakota High School. This information helps school improvement efforts by gathering data on perceptions that contribute to the climate and culture of Dakota. Parent and community feedback is needed. You can get a copy of the form off the website by clicking on the box “Community Feedback-Tell Us What You Think”. Completed forms can be dropped off at the main office or mailed to the school.
An eight person QAR (Quality Assurance Review) team visited Dakota. The review helps keep Dakota High School accredited rating. On April 12-13, 2011 QAR team members will randomly contact parents and staff for their input.
Coffee with the principal on March 29, 2011 at 12:30 p.m.
Mr. Heethius wants to squash rumors and report to parents that school will be in session on Friday, April 1, 2011.
Spring break will be from April 4 through April 8, 2011.
Mike Fusco addressed the general membership:
District Physical Night on April 19, 2011 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the main gym. The cost is $20. Every athlete must have a physical on file dated after April 15, 2011 for the fall 2011 season signed and dated by a doctor, physician’s assistance or nurse practitioner.
Congratulations to the DHS Varsity Boys’ Bowling Team on winning the Division 1 State Championship. The bowling team qualified 36 and defeated John Glen of Westland in the finals.
Girls cheer captured 1st division title in the District Championship.
Student Report:

Course requests are due the week of March 21st in your student’s English class. The English teachers have the schedule for the day and time the class will go to the computer lab to schedule their classes. .

MSU future Spartans program will be at the Best Western from 7:00-8:30 p.m.
Best Dressed Re-Sale shop for Prom will be at the MISD on March 17 and 18, 2011. Most items are $30 or less. Cash only.
NHS laser-tag event at Zap Zone on April 19, 2011 from midnight to 8:00 a.m. to benefit the McRest organization.
SANP committee meetings: March 16, April 13, April 27, May 11, May 18 and June 8 in the community room.
The SANP Spring Craft Show is this weekend, March 19, 2011.

Fine Arts Report: Doug Sayles
Band:
Dakota co-hosted the district MSBOA Band Festival with CVHS this past weekend. Dakota bands received the highest raking of 1. Over the two days, there were 15 visiting bands from area high schools performing at Dakota.
Dakota will be hosting MSBOA Honors Band on March 19-22, 2011.
STORM, the Dakota Winter Guard has been competing in the Michigan Color Guard circuit. Several members competed in solo events at Farmington Hills High School ranking as high as second place. They have team competition this weekend at Chippewa Valley High School and will participate in State competition April 2, 2011 at Saginaw Valley State University.

Choir:
50 choir members attended the MSVMA District Solo & Ensemble Festival on February 4, 2011. The choir received a first division rating. Students are qualified to compete at the state level this month.

Service Report: Kim Zuchora
NHS students are assisting with many local events this month at elementary schools and the Macomb Township Recreation Center’s Mom-to-Mom sale. NHS is looking for volunteer opportunities including the Senior All Night Party craft show this Saturday, March 19th.
SADD is currently working with DATT (Drivers Against Talking and Texting) to implement phase II of the Phone Alone program. In this phase, students will all receive t-shirts and hands-free devices to help them avoid talking and texting on their phone. SADD will take part in a driving simulation to see how their driving skills are affected when they are distracted while driving.
The construction trades program is offering time after school for the community, parents, teachers and students to help with the Habitat for Humanity house they are building at Dakota High School’s construction trades building. Please join the construction trades on the following Tuesdays: February 8, 15, March 1, 8 and 15 from 2:30 – 8:00 pm. Organize a group of people or just come out to help. Sports Report: Don Hornberger
Boys’ Basketball MAC red, 6-15 overall, Girls’ Basketball 6-6 MAC Red 15-9, District Champs.
Boys’ bowling 12-0 State Champs; Girls bowling 11-1 overall.
Wrestling 6-1 MAC White, 18-5 overall. Lost in the district finals to L’Anse Cruse 40-22.
Swimming 9-2 overall, placed 4th in the MAC Red.
Varsity Hockey 6-3-1 MAC Red and 15-11-1 overall.
JV Hockey record 7-13-4.
Girls’ Soccer season beginning near the end of the month.
April 8, 2011 the track team will be hosting a Spring Classic meet beginning at 10:00 a.m. This is an all-day meet.
