Dakota Booster GENERAL Membership Meeting
October 11, 2010
Meeting began at 7:05 p.m.
Minutes of Last General Membership Meeting were approved by Lisa Jo Kuhn (1) and Tracy Downey (2).
Christie Forbes-Green, President, was not present due to a family emergency. Mary Ann Forester, Vice-President opened the meeting.
Kathy Renn, Secretary, resigned due to family commitments. Donna Kirchhoff, former booster board member, will act as interim secretary. If you are interested in the position, please contact our board president, Christie Forbes-Green.
Treasurer’s Report:
Checking Balance: $22,486.88 Savings Balance: $ 4,498.14
Donations Pending: $ 12,462.25 Balance Remaining: $14,522.77

The treasurer reported that the booster bank accounts are currently being transferred to Extra Credit Union. Gross receipts for the Homecoming game were over $6,000.00.
Student Report:

Administration Report:
Mr. Heethius presented a power-point presentation of the Pep Rally, Spirit Week and Homecoming festivities. The 2,500 students who assembled for the Homecoming activities where the best behaved group of students in Mr. Heethius’ tenure.
Challenge Day activity was attended by 90 students and 25 staff members. The activities focused on tolerance, acceptance, etc. Students and staff participated in activities that focused on Notice-Decide-Act. The “Be the Change” initiative is a direct link to the Challenge Day event.

Parent-Teacher conferences on Wednesday, October 13 from 6:00-8:30 pm and Thursday, October 14 from 12:00-2:00 pm and 6:00-8:30 p.m. Students have a ½ day on Thursday and Friday and will be dismissed at 10:33 am.
The 9th grade Explore Test measures academic skills through 9th grade. Plant test will be administered to 10th graders and the practice ACT test will be administered to 11th graders.
Seniors will be fitted for cap/gowns by Jostens.
Students will receive results of the above noted tests in approximately one month.
Students will not attend school on Election Day, November 2.
Spring break is the first full week in April. Students will not attend school on Good Friday.
The new “Emergency Alert Notification Text” system was explained and demonstrated.
Mrs. Voss, 9th grade center principal, reported that 684 students are enrolled. 475 students attended the 9th grade Homecoming dance. The freshman class won four out of five spirit day events and took first place in the Homecoming Parade float contest.
Mr. Briningstool appreciated the great leadership shown during the homecoming pep assembly.
Mr. Briningstool reported that student information via Power School is being utilized by the staff and should be up and operational by conferences. Mr. Briningstool urged parents to attend conferences on Thursday evening as it is usually less busy and the lines are shorter.
CAC – Mary Ann Cuoto
Mary Ann reported on the October 7, 2010 CAC meeting:
Discussed new progress report format.
County-wide pupil accounting program “Power School” administered through MISD is up and running.
Transportation issues were discussed regarding schools that receive no/reduced bussing of students.
3.2 million Federal funding must be used in two years.
School board approved budget with $2.9 million deficit, but $3.2 million stimulus funds will offset.
Changed district phone system which resulted in huge savings for district.
Smart Board installation is in progress.
Lee Ann Soulard reported that her husband has concerns about high school students crossing 21 Mile Road without crossing guards present in the early morning hours before sunrise. John Briningstool reported that the crossing guard shifts begin at 6:45 a.m. He reported that the Sheriff Department will begin writing J-walking tickets to help deter illegal and dangerous crossing situations. Mr. Briningstool addressed the parents and encouraged them to write letters to the Township and the County Road Commission about the dangerous situation and the needs for a resolution.
Fine Arts Report: Doug Sayles
Band:
On September 25 the marching band participated in the MSBOA competition at Chippewa Valley High School and took 1st place in their division.
September 12 the marching band and color guard participated in the Good Ole Days Parade in Richmond.
October 13 the band and guard will be participating in the MSBOAS Marching Band Festival at Sterling Heights High School where they will be judged against specific standards and receive a rating based on their performance.
October 28-Collage Concert. The band and choir will perform.
Dakota Marching Band will perform for the third straight year in the Detroit Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Abuelo’s Dinner Night Out fundraising will be on Wednesday, October 21 from 4-9 pm.
Dooley’s fundraiser on Saturday, November 6.
Dancing with the Stars fundraiser on January 28, 2011.

Service Report: Kim Zuchora
86 National Honor Society students were inducted on October 6. New and current NHS students will be volunteering for at least ten community events in October from Halloween and Harvest parties to helping with the Goodfellows dinner fundraiser.
Bake sale at conferences.
October 16 is the Be Aware Walk for Suicide Prevention co-sponsored by the Chippewa Valley Coalition for Youth and Families and KnowResolve.
Sports Report:
Our Sport’s Trustee thanked the parents who volunteered for the Homecoming Varsity Football game.
Craft Show Report: Mary Ann Forester
Mary Ann Forester will be leaving the board next year as her son graduates. She reminded parents that the booster board needs a new chairperson for the craft show. If you are interested, please contact Mary Ann or Christie Forbes-Green.
Craft Show volunteers are needed on both Friday, November 12 and Saturday, November 13. Sign-up sheets are available at tonight’s meeting and November’s meeting. Each shift is three hours.
Kids can work craft show and earn credit points for their perspective sport/club/band.
