Administration Report:
Mr. Heethuis reported that the Special Education Enhancement Millage did not pass on November 8th.
Dakota High School is having a Canned Food Drive. 58 out of 71 3rd hour classes are participating.
5,142 cans and
boxes have been collected and will be given to various charities,
such as
Gleaners Food Bank and Kiwanis.
Some of the cans will be used to stock the Cougar Closet.
In addition to the cans, $3,966 has been collected and will also be kept for the Cougar Closet. This is a school record.
Staff members are making $1 donation for every year of their age. The checks are still coming in.
AYP Cut Scores:
The State of Michigan has introduced new changes in cut scores. The new scores have raised the proficiency standards on statewide testing. Cut scores determine what percentage of students are proficient in a specific subject. The state has given each school district a comparison, taking the new cut scores and applying it to the old. The new scores will mean a definite drop in proficiency among students. In 2007 61% of students in reading were proficient. Under the new guidelines only 55% would have been. The students’ scores have not changed, the cut scores have. The spring of 2012 the new scores will apply. The MME scores will definitely change. The ACT scores will not be affected. These scores will remain the same.
