Dakota Booster GENERAL Membership Meeting
September 19, 2011
The meeting was called to order at 7:07p.m. by Don Hornberger, President.
Minutes of the last General Membership Meeting were read by the general membership and approved by Chris LaBudde (1) and Mark Eveningred (2).
Introduction of the new 2011 Booster Board Members: Don Hornberger, President; Doug Sayles, Vice President; Sue Jacob, Secretary; Grace Caporuscio, Treasurer; Mike Bates, Sports Trustee; Jack Bellomo, Fine Arts Trustee; Jim Burke, Service Trustee; Karen Ermanni, Donation Trustee; Kim Zuchora, Web Site.
Don addressed the general membership explaining that we have made several positive changes to concessions and to the web site. Students, 16 years of age and over may volunteer to help with concessions making it a great experience for the students and helping them realize the hard work that goes into running concessions.
Treasurer’s Report: Grace Caporuscio
Checking Balance - CU $ 27,351.87 Savings Balance - CU $ 4,506.56
The Credit Union will be closing their location at Dakota High School. New Accounts will be opened at First State Bank on 24 Mile and Romeo Plank.
Administration Report:
Mr. Briningstool introduced Mrs. Voss and Mr. Heethuis to the general membership. He also gave a brief background of what type of information Administration will give during Booster Meetings.
Open House/Meet the Teacher, Wednesday, Sept. 21st. Starting at 6:30p.m. With the Dakota High School Annual Report, AYP Scores and Academic Standing, Progressing to student schedules, 10 minutes for each class.
Primary objective this year is to create a partnership between parents and teachers.
Mr. Briningstool continued by saying that it has been a great opening to the new school year.
Explained new changes to the School Code of Conduct approved by the Chippewa Valley School Board.
Student I.D.’s no longer have to be worn around the neck, but the student must have it “on their person” and be able to present it upon request.
Cell phones can now be used in the classroom under certain guidelines. A new Pilot Program has been implemented using Red, Yellow and Green Areas.
Red Room – No cell phone use
Yellow Room – Cell phone use as an educational tool permitted at teacher’s discretion.
Green Area – Cell phone use allowed in cafeteria and hallways outside of classroom.
Mrs. Voss, 9th grade center Principal also stated that the 9th grade center had a smooth opening. There are currently 650 students. She visited each classroom with an “academic message” and included a discussion of colleges that the students would like to attend. She continued with information regarding tuition, room and board, GPA and ACT score required. Mrs. Voss noted that the GPA for entering college freshman is 3.1 to 3.9 with an ACT score of 21 to 30. There is a website available for every college in the state of Michigan. If they know the requirements now, they can establish academic goals.
9th graders take the Plan Test in March 2012. Homecoming game is September 23rd and the dance, September 24th.
Mr. Heethuis discussed the traffic flow pattern. The best advice for parents is to pick up their students at 2:20 -2:25 p.m.
He presented the “7 Keys to a Successful School Year” to the general membership.

The First “Coffee with the Principal” is Tuesday September 27th. The Homecoming Theme is “The Greatest Homecoming on Earth”. The game is September 26th and the dance, October 1st.
Mr. Heethuis discussed the November 8th, 2011 Special Education Enhancement Ballot Proposal. A handout was given to the membership. One in seven children in Macomb County receives special education. If the proposal passes, the county’s 21 districts will not have to use some general education funds for special education services.
We are still in need of a Senior All Night Party Chairperson. Everyone was given a new school calendar.
Mr. Fusco talked about the “Life of an Athlete” Program presented by John Underwood. The program is intended to help Athlete’s be successful through living a healthy lifestyle. It has three major components:
Education – one night of alcohol can destroy 14 days of training.
Nutrition – based on the latest research, replenish the body with the proper nutrient before and after workout.
Review of the “Athlete’s Code of Conduct.

Vice President: Doug Sayles
Doug presented the new credit system to the general membership.
Each organization/club can use the Booster’s as a fundraising tool
Volunteers can sign up and earn credit
There are approximately 720 opportunities to work. They will earn $45.00 per opportunity.
Four times a year, the Booster Board will disburse funds. No donation request forms are required. The credit can be use for anything as long as you follow the laws of the Chippewa Valley School District.
Fine Arts Report: Jack Bellomo
Band:
The Marching Band performed at the Andover Invitational with Stoney Creek High School, Andover, Troy, and Lahser High School. The Bands performed on the field and all were awarded Trophies.
The Marching Band participated in the Richmond Good Old Days Parade and will be participating in the Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Choir:
The Dakota Choir is underway with planning the 2011 Fashion Show “Dakota Struts Into a Broadway Fashion Revue”. The event will be on Monday, November 7th at Zuccaro’s Banquet Hall beginning at 5:30p.m. Proceeds will help offset the cost of the choir traveling to perform in a Broadway Festival in New York City.
DHS Show Choir, September 8th Auditions. First rehearsal is September 15th
Drama:
DHS Drama Department is putting on the Show “Grease”, February 9th, 10th and 11th of 2012
They will have an informational meeting for students on September 27th and the auditions will take place October 5th, 6th and 7th.

Sports Report: Mike Bates
New format for the website. Once you register it holds all your info. It will ask you what event you would like to volunteer for.
Mike receives e-mails every time someone registers and signs up for an event.
We made $6,000 in concession during the Chippewa Valley Football game.
