Booster GENERAL Membership Meeting
October

Meeting
started at 7:06 pm. Meeting Minutes Approved.
Opening
remarks: Introduction of the Booster Board Officials.
Treasurer’s Report:
Checking balance is
$21,507.00, Savings Balance is $4,314.16.
Donations Pending: $1,173.60. Balance: $25,747.18
Report was approved by Kim Torchala (1st) and Burt (2nd)
Administration:
- Mr. Tom Heethuis addressed
parents concerned about the safety of our students. Mr. Heethuis assured
the parents that Administration takes this issue very serious. Security is a District decision. Concerns also can be directed at a
school board meeting.
- The West Wing has a Hall
Monitor, and Mr. Briningstool is in the area during dismissal
- DHS website – items are
outdated. Please notify the front office if you notice outdated
information.
- Parent/Teacher Conferences will
be held the week of Oct. 9th.
- Oct. 31 – half day for
students.
- MEAP Testing – Freshman
testing and Senior retakes will be
the week of 11/20.
- ACT Testing will be given in
school. DHS is a National testing facility, more information to come in
May.
- West Wing shuttles are running
smoothly. Great Pep assembly and Homecoming.
Student Report:
Homecoming tickets, big mistake limiting ticket sales. Junior and Senior sales
went well; Freshman sales were out-of-control.
Homecoming committee is brainstorming for new ideas for future ticket
sales.
Service Report:
- NHS offers tutoring every
Thursday in the Media Center. First general membership meeting was held
Oct. 5th. Induction of new members will be held on Oct. 23rd.
- Design Technology posted their
06/07 announcements
- Key Club – first meeting was
held Oct. 3rd.
Fine Arts Report:
Band
- Oct 4th MSBOA
Festival – Congratulation to the Marching Band, received 1st
Division rating. Upcoming events:
November, Fruit sales and holiday parade in Grosse Pointe. December 7th
– holiday concert. Additional information can be found at the band website www.dakotaband.net
Choir – Oct. 9th - Cabaret
rehearsal. Oct 10th Cabaret Concert. Regional Honors Choir audition
will be Oct 13th. Cookie
dough fundraiser will begin Oct. 17th. Additional information can be
found at the choir website www.dakotachoir.com
Drama
– Wizard of Oz
performance will be Nov. 16-18.
Winter Guard – Tryouts for Winter Guard Team
will be mid-November. Bingo Days fundraiser will be held Nov. 18 (21 and
Gratiot).
Sports Report:
- Football
– Varsity beat
Anchor Bay. JV team doing very well with a record of 5-2
- Boy’s
Soccer – Varsity
record 6-8. JV record 11-3
- Girl’s
Basketball – Record
8-1 overall and 5-0 in the MAC Gold, winning Dakota’s first division title
since 1999.
- Hockey
– Try-outs
will begin Oct. 30th and 31st at Suburban Ice Arena.
Dakota Wear:
Sales are going well.
Craft Show:
154 spaces sold, 200 tables available. Need at least 60-90 volunteers for
set-up and clean-up.
Website:
2006 donation list posted, over $62,500 given back to the school by the
Booster’s.
Donation Requests:
Varsity
Dance Team requested $1,468.65 for performance game outfits. Approved.
Old Business:
None.
New Business:
- Senior class meeting will be
held on Friday, 10/13. Senior class calendar will be distributed and
posted on the DHS website.
- FYI-- Dakota apparel sold at
Kroeger and Walmart is not affiliated with Chippewa Valley schools.
- Stephanie Lange, from the Student
Assistance Program presented. The
Student Assistance program is
confidential and on-site, geared towards helping students succeed in life. Students are encouraged to participate,
but most are self-referred. There are many programs available, such as,
Grief Support Assistance, Insight Program and a Dialogue Night for
Parents. Please contact Stephanie
